African Youth Inclusion: A Catalyst to Transformation

Africa has the youngest population in the world, with 70% of sub-Saharan Africa under the age of 30. Having a young population brings many opportunities for economic growth, innovation, and Nation building, only if this is perceived, recognized, and utilized as an opportunity.

Having a high number of young people is an opportunity for the continent’s growth as the most abundant resource of Africa is its young persons, provided the new generations are fully empowered to realize their best potential.

Young people contribute daily to benefit their communities and nations across Africa. From providing support to the elderly to advocating for justice and equality, proffering actions to climate change, and tech-oriented solutions to local problems, young people have proven their centrality and creativity in building, sustaining, and transforming communities in Africa.

However, it is important that young people are included in decision-making and given appropriate opportunities for work and to innovate. It is high time young persons are recognized as equal partners and as rights holders and not as victims.

Moreso, involving Africa young people in Nation-building decisions is not merely a question of inclusion but rather a tool for transformation and Africa’s rebirth.

Engage youth, create a space for them, and give them a seat at the table. Don’t just offer this seat passively, but empower young people to actually use it. Young people have potential, synergy, and tenacity, with guidance, they can utilize the power given

 Young people are able to build the Africa of our dreams and transform the continent into a greater one, provided they are offered seats, their voices are amplified and they are appropriately included in the action plans.-
